Commodities, Currencies and Interest Rates

Many investors have a fixation in trading index and share based physical products. The futures markets open up a new dimension in the portfolio management of non-correlated markets. At any one time there is possibly a market that has a strong underlying directional bias that can assist in diversifying a portfolio. Here are just a few examples:

Commodities: Gold, Crude Oil, Sugar, Wheat, etc

Global Currencies: Australian Dollar, British Pound, Euro Currency, South African Rand, Japanese Yen, etc

Interest Rates: Australian bank bills, US Treasury Bonds, etc

Indexes

Trading Share indexes enables an investor to gain access to trade a portfolio of shares for a fraction of the portfolio value. For example the SPI200, the Australian local share market requires a deposit of $2 500AUD to trade a share portfolio valued at $85 000AUD this is based on a index value of 3400 and a leverage multiplier of $25AUD. The leverage multiplier is the dollar value that can be gained or lost for each index point movement either up or down.

Some examples are: the Australian Share Index, Dow Jones, Nasdaq, United Kingdom Index, Korean Index, Japanese Index, Hong Kong, Taiwan Index, etc
